The challenge
The organization served a Deaf audience through a site with no ASL content, unlabeled PDFs, and a donation flow that broke on mobile.
The strategy
We designed an ASL-first content model: every core page leads with a signed video, paired with captions and an English transcript. Program information moved out of PDFs and into real, searchable pages.
What we changed
- Built an ASL video component with captions, transcript, and poster frame
- Replaced 60+ PDF downloads with accessible HTML program pages
- Rebuilt the donation flow as a two-step mobile-first form
- Created a staff-editable events and interpreter request system
Accessibility improvements
- ASL video, captions, and transcripts on every core page
- WCAG 2.2 AA conformance verified with manual screen reader testing
- Visual-first wayfinding with icon plus text labels
- Reduced-motion support across all animated components
Results
- +3.1x
- Online donations
- +87%
- Mobile completion rate
- +210%
- Program page views
